Fall

It's fall, even though the weather can't make up it's mind if it wants to be hot or cold, the leaves know that they are ready to change colors and fall!

everything I know I learned from Taylor Swift...

November 2010 Glamour

Taylor Talks:

Glamour: Are there qualities you look for in a guy now that you wouldn't have looked for when you were younger?

TS: When I'm getting to know someone, I look for someone who has passions that I respect, like his career. Someone who loves what he does is really attractive. In high school, I used to think it was "like soooo coool" if a guy had an awesome car. Now none of that matters. These days I look for character and honesty and trust.

It makes me laugh, that at 19, we (Glamour) are asking the girl about her qualities in a guy that are different from when she was younger...oh to be a wise 19 year old! However, I do have to say, I character, honesty and trust are three pretty amazing qualities in a man...oh and a job!

I will be buying Speak Now on Monday morning so I can spend the day in the office listening to all the songs about her heartbreaks!

You know you love me...XOXO

Is bullying a taught skill?

There was an article in the New York Times about little mean girls. These little girls begin bullying each others as young as Kindergarten. Mean girls often (not always...) come from mean moms. These moms are the ones bullying and gossiping with other moms on the playground while the little girls play and learn these skills. Why does putting someone down make you feel better about yourself? Why does making someone else feel as low as you do, make you feel better? or...does it?

I know I am a hypocrite for even asking these questions. I often find myself obsessed with talking about other people and the decisions they make with their lives, when in reality it has nothing to do with me, and I should have no negative opinions on the subject matter. But...alas, I do...

This is an inspirational website I found a few years ago. I like to look at it and challenge myself to be nicer and think of others and how words and actions make them feel.

So, have a wonderful day and remember to write LOVE on your arm!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

suicide prevention

I spent the last two days in a suicide prevention workshop. It was incredibly intense. I have to say that before the workshop I felt fairly prepared to handle a suicidal resident. However, I quickly learned, that I was not actually prepared at all.

I have always said that I would take an emotional crisis over a drug/alcohol or party situation any day, however, after these past two days I began to doubt my skills.

Practicing my skills definitely helped, but you never really know how you will react when you face certain situations. Working with college students has given me plenty of opportunities to deal with stressful situations that students face, but I always have the counseling center to refer students to. I realize that I need to be prepared to talk to students in an emergency situation in case of late night intervention when counselors are not available.

This year I have been faced with a lot of cyber relationships that have really stumped me. How can young adults be so mean to each other through social media? How are they so comfortable putting something out there on the internet that will never go away? How can they say something on-line that they would never say to someone's face?

I ask these questions knowing that I will never fully understand the answers, but I hope these questions will help educate young adults that words hurt and words and actions can put lives at risk. Let's all hope we learn from Pheobe Prince and Tyler Clementi.

Nikole's Big Day!

This is my favorite picture from the night! Steve Lau's girlfriend Ali took it and I remember saying "TAG ME" when she left. I knew it was going to be a cute one!!

Driving past the Hollywood sign was perfect since we were going to Ms. Hollywood's wedding! It was such a pretty day!
So glad she got married before she turned 30!

It was such a great weekend celebrating with Jack and Nikole and hanging out with the girls again. Can't wait to see everyone again!
