Talent

So, a benefit to getting a new job is the massive amount of research you have the opportunity to do. It's kind of amazing how much technology has changed over the last 20 years. Students are so willing to get on their computer and watch a youtube clip of a campus tour and tweet their questions/thoughts to the world, but would they really want to come to campus, take that same tour and ask those same questions? Well, if my mom was with them, the question would be asked..but still!

I really do believe that online education is going to be the norm in a few years. Students are so used to doing things at their own pace and if they are ready to move on and the rest of the class isn't, they are done. Or if they are still stuck on a problem, but the class moves on, they can stick with it and continue at that pace throughout the semester. There are so many online tools to help students learn at their pace and with their learning style. We really have raised a national of students who want things their way. Which, in some ways isn't a bad thing. At SU, I tired to bring technology to our department but struggled with the higher ups in getting the video content on the website. So, it just seemed easier to just do the same old thing, day after day, and not have to worry about working with other people to get things done. Well, I think I have an opportunity to really get some cool stuff out to the world through technology. And I am going to start with this blog!

I need to learn from the best. There are so many blogs to read about technology in higher education. Keeping up with the time is key! Expect this blog to be updated more often! (hopefully!)
